LIVE – Pension reform: in Paris, gatherings prohibited at Concorde

After the activation of 49.3 and before the debate on the motions of censure against the government, the opponents of the pension reform intend to use the weekend to express their anger, with rallies, strikes and trash cans piling up .

In the wake of Elisabeth Borne’s appeal to Article 49.3 of the Constitution, which allows the adoption of a text without a vote, except for a motion of censure, the inter-union called on Thursday for rallies this weekend, as well as to a 9th day of strikes and demonstrations on March 23.

2:36 p.m. – “Stabilisation” of waste tonnages in Paris, according to the town hall

The City of Paris notes a “stabilization” of the volume of uncollected waste in the capital, while requisitioned dump trucks collect garbage according to the prefecture.

On Friday, the town hall estimated that 10,000 tonnes of waste were awaiting collection on the Parisian sidewalks.

The strikers of the three waste incineration sites produced by Paris are setting up “filtering dams” to let garbage collection trucks pass, according to a union delegate, confirming information from “Liberation”.

A filtering of trucks will be held in Issy-les-Moulineaux (Hauts-de-Seine) on Saturday and Sunday, then in Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis) on Monday and Tuesday, according to Fatiha Lahrech, CGT union representative of the site of Issy-les-Moulineaux. Letting trucks pass is a “security decision to limit the risk of an epidemic”, she explains.

Industry Minister Roland Lescure suggests that the government could make requisitions in the event of the shutdown of refineries by employees on strike against the pension reform.

At least two refineries, that of PetroIneos in Lavéra (Bouches-du-Rhône) and the Normandy refinery of TotalEnergies in Gonfreville-l’Orcher (Manche), could be shut down from this weekend and later Monday, according to the CGT. Until now, the strikers had contented themselves with blocking fuel shipments, but the refineries continued to produce.
