Renault wants to continue to learn from its failures in China. According to our information, after drawing a line on its alliance with Dongfeng in April 2020, the French manufacturer now wishes to close its partnership with Brilliance. The joint venture created at the end of 2017 with the Chinese public group to produce commercial vehicles, which has never made any money, could be placed in bankruptcy.

The fate of the joint venture will be played out in the coming weeks. A board of directors is due to be held by the end of the month, during which the Chinese state will have its say. “If the local authorities decide that the company must be bailed out in the name of maintaining employment, Renault will have little choice but to follow,” blows a source familiar with the matter. The new management of Losange can hardly alienate the Chinese authorities, while they are convinced that Renault cannot be absent from the world’s leading car market.
