Food smell

The smell of food on clothes is especially unpleasant and very difficult to clean. Even after a washing and drying cycle, many fabrics still have odors.

To clean clothes with food odors, put your clothes in a washing machine with hot water function (if the fabric allows). In addition to using a strong detergent, you can boost your laundry’s ability to deal with odors by adding one cup of baking soda or half a cup of borax to your washing machine.

With thick clothes, difficult to completely remove the smell if only machine washing, you should soak the clothes before two hours with a solution of hot water and baking soda.

Perfume smell

Pour cold water into a bucket, basin or sink. Mix one cup of baking soda and four cups of hot water. Add perfume-stained clothes and soak for at least four hours, or overnight. Then, you wash according to the appropriate instructions listed on the garment’s label (machine washable, hand washable…) and dry in a well-ventilated place.

In addition, with non-washable fabrics, you should hang them in an open space for about a day. You can also hang smelly clothes in a drawer or an airtight bag and place an open box of baking soda in it for a few days. The baking soda will absorb the smell.

Sweat’s smell

Shirts, casual pants, sportswear or workwear usually smell good after being laundered, however, within a few hours after you put them on, the clothes are already full of sweat, especially if you work. outdoors or exercise a lot.

In case you have washed but still smell of sweat, you should mix a solution of two cups of baking soda and warm water, let the shirt soak for at least one night, and then wash it.

In sweaty areas such as armpits, back, neck, you can mix a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and water, then use a soft-bristled brush to scrub before washing.

You can also use white vinegar mixed with warm water as a solution to soak clothes, leave for about 30 minutes, then rinse the solution and wash as usual.

According to laundry experts, in the case of heavy sweaty workout clothes, you can add a cup of baking soda or white vinegar to the washing water, each time you press the washing machine. These will help neutralize odors and make laundry soap work more effectively. With these workout clothes, do not tumble dry, they should be dried after washing.

The smell of gasoline

In case your clothes smell of gasoline because you are out on the street for too long or accidentally let gasoline or oil get on your clothes, you should treat them thoroughly because this smell is toxic, affecting your health and safety. .

Before you put the shirt in the washing machine, you need to treat the oil stains on the clothes. Since it’s an oil-based stain, you can use an enzymatic cleaner to remove it. Use your fingers to soak the bleach and blot the stain, leaving for about 15 minutes before washing. In addition, when washing, you should choose the hot water function to completely repel the smell of gasoline on the clothes.

In case the shirt has a lot of gasoline smell, you should soak the shirt with a baking soda solution for about 4 hours and then wash it. If the smell still doesn’t go away, you can soak the clothes in an ammonia solution for 2-3 hours before washing.

The smell of mothballs or the musty smell of clothes left in the closet for a long time

The smell of mothballs usually won’t go away easily in the first washes, especially when clothes are out of season. In addition to using baking soda or white vinegar in the wash cycle, you should hang the clothes in the sun until the clothes are completely dry.
