What happens to the body when kissing?

Kissing someone you love not only makes you both feel good and strengthens your relationship, but it also has a ton of health benefits.

1. Stronger arteries

A study by Professor Kory Floyd at Arizona State University, USA and colleagues found that people who kiss more have lower cholesterol levels. A long, passionate kiss is great for regulating heart rate, lowering cholesterol levels and lowering blood pressure. When the blood is circulated, all important organs, including the heart, become healthier. At the same time when you kiss, your body begins to produce more oxytocin. This hormone helps to reduce stress and anxiety.

2. Less allergic reactions

Kissing relieves stress and gives you positive emotions, which can help reduce allergies. However, keep in mind that if your partner eats something that you are allergic to, it could cause you to become contagious as well.

3. Younger face

A lot of facial muscles are involved in the kiss, making the face firmer like a real workout. You can burn up to 26 calories per minute. And because kissing increases blood flow to your face, it can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin – two factors that help your face look younger.

The more you kiss, the firmer these muscles are, helping you to smooth wrinkles, shape your neck and slow down the aging process of skin, especially around the cheeks. It’s no surprise that your face looks younger and more vibrant after a kiss.

5. Reduce tooth decay

Kissing increases saliva production, which can protect teeth from harmful bacteria and prevent tooth decay, according to the Academy of General Dentistry. Some experts also say that the mineral ions in saliva may even help repair small damage to tooth enamel. However, it is very important for you and your partner to clean your mouth, because there are also germs that can be passed on by kissing.

6. Lose weight

Kissing also causes the body to produce more dopamine. Without enough of this hormone in your body, you may have cravings, especially unhealthy and high-calorie foods. And even when you eat it it may not feel enough. High dopamine levels will help control appetite and prevent weight gain.
